Time to reflect? - Shaw Gibbs Head of Financial Planning covers his expansion plans
The Covid pandemic has provided us all with reflection time and with this, re-evaluation and prioritisation of what is important. Whether this is moving to a house with a larger outside space or taking a career break, most of these decisions have a financial angle.
It is for this reason that Ed Gibson, Head of Division for Shaw Gibbs Financial Planning has decided to expand his business with the hire of two Financial Planners.
Ed, who has a background of more than 27 years in the industry and who has worked for Shaw Gibbs for the past 11 comments.
“We have seen a surge in new business from people who are looking into their lifestyle choices for example; some have decided to retire earlier than expected whilst others are cutting their working weeks down to part-time or are taking career breaks to explore their personal passions. These decisions can only be taken if the person in question is confident that they have the right amount of money to facilitate their expected standard of living.”
Ed currently has a team of five which includes Kelly Selby, a Paraplanner and Tim Davison, a Chartered Financial Planner. The planners are ably supported by Alex Au-Young, Brian Horne and trainee James Nolan. Tim has a specialism in providing financial advice to those in later life and is the only independent SOLLA Later Life adviser in the Thames Valley, his clients have very different needs to those who are looking at galvanising their lifestyle decisions yet, they are still looking for financial security and peace of mind, often around their longer-term care requirements.
“Tim’s skill-set in advising individuals in their later years is in high demand” says Ed “So my plan is to now build out the team with the hire of two Financial Planners, one to be based in Oxford and the other in our London office. I am looking for individuals with real experience as a financial planner and ideally in a fee-based, professional services firm environment. The most important thing however is that they fit with our ethos of doing the right thing for the right person at the right price.
Shaw Gibbs have taken the decision to keep both their Oxford and London office-spaces ‘as is’ and with the same capacity levels however, we will continue with a flexible approach to working in the office/at home and we are pleased to be able to offer an agile approach to our employees.”
